AOC appears on ‘The View’ where not even Whoopi Goldberg likes her message about older Democrats — and makes her feelings clear

Goldberg for the win

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) appeared on Wednesday's broadcast of "The View," where she discussed her respect for her elder Democratic lawmakers.

One person who didn't seem to be too impressed was co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who chastised the freshman lawmaker for her perceived ageism against more senior lawmakers in Washington, D.C., such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Ocasio-Cortez has also attacked Pelosi's policies, which reportedly prompted some House Democrats to call the New York congresswoman a "fraud" and a "nobody."

What are the details?

Goldberg opened by admitting that she was "very happy" when Ocasio-Cortez was elected because she believed that the young lawmaker could easily effect change.

"I was very happy when you were elected, because I thought it was a great step in a good direction," Goldberg said. "And then, you lost me because it felt like you were saying to people like me that I was too old and didn't do enough."

She continued, "And so, that has bothered me, because I feel like I love young people. I was once one. But you're on my shoulders. And we have carried this fight. People like Nancy Pelosi, who was the only chick in the room for years. ... And to sort of hear it sound like you were dismissing us bothered the hell out of me. And I've been very upset about it for a long time."

Ocasio-Cortez bristled and insisted that she has great respect for some senior lawmakers such as Democratic Reps. Barbara Lee (Calif.), Maxine Walters (Calif.), and the late Elijah Cummings (Md).

"I appreciate you sharing that with me, because I think that's something we have to model more in politics," she answered. "Nancy Pelosi, that's Mama Bear of the Democratic Party. You don't mess with her. Also, women like Barbara Lee ... and Maxine Waters."

"Cool," Goldberg quipped, seemingly unimpressed.
