Video: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quotes fake economist 'Milton Keynes' who doesn't exist

Hailed once as "the future" of the Democratic Party by DNC Chairman Tom Perez, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) took to Instagram on Saturday to analyze the state of the country's economy.

The Boston University graduate, said she was recently reading how, in 1930, "famed economist Milton Keynespredicted that by 2030, GDP and technology would have advanced so much, that it would allow everyday people to work as little as FIFTEEN HOURS a week and provide for their families."

There's only one problem with this: Milton Keynes does not and has never existed.

As the Washington Examiner's John Gage notes, the freshman representative likely confused the famous libertarian economist Milton Friedman with John Maynard Keynes whose ideas are most often associated with liberals and progressives.

Ocasio-Cortez later clarified that she had mistaken Friedman with Keynes.

"UGGGH TYPO. It's John Maynard Keynes. Mixed his name with Milton Friedman — a (very) different economist," she wrote in a subsequent Instagram story.

Except it wasn't just a typo. Ocasio-Cortez also said "Milton Keynes."

One could laugh off her misstatement as a moment of temporary confusion, but for someone who boasts of having studied economics, wants control over major industries, and Sen.Bernie Sanders says would play an important role in his administration, the gaffe is yet another reminder that the 30-year-old socialist representing New York's 14th district has no idea what she's talking about on virtually any topic.

But we all have to take her seriously because she knows things...or something.
