'This is how cops get killed'

New York City police officers made headlines last month when videos hit social media showing people repeatedly dumping water on cops in the streets and chucking a bucket at an officer's head — and police either didn't react or simply trudged off.

Joseph Imperatrice, an NYPD sergeant and founder of Blue Lives Matter NYC, told Fox News that the cops were "bullied" and resorted to "walking away with their tail between their legs." It all made him "sick to my stomach," he said while adding that "this is how cops get killed."

What's getting thrown at cops this month?

An NYPD sergeant was standing with other officers near the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park during a concert about 4 p.m. Sunday when a fist-sized piece of concrete smashed into a tree three feet from the cops, the New York Post reported, citing police sources.

While it isn't known who threw the concrete chunk as a large number of people were in the area, sources told the paper that a report was filed for attempted assault.

Earlier that day in the Bronx, five officers were injured when a 28-year-old man hurled bottles at police as they tried to break up a 2 a.m. party with about 100 people in attendance, the Post said, citing sources.

The officers were taken to a hospital for their minor injuries, the paper reported, adding that James Evans was arrested for throwing bottles, and Tyrik Owens was handcuffed for interfering with police.

What did a police group have to say?

After the latest incidents, the New York City Police Benevolent Association noted that "last month, when it was buckets of water being thrown [at] NYC police officers elected officials diminished the seriousness of those actions. Not surprisingly, this month it is glass bottles & concrete. Will [Mayor Bill de Blasio] assert leadership & condemn these actions?"
