Devin Nunes promises swift action against Washington Post over 'garbage,' 'fake news' story

'Who the hell is leaking these stories?'

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, vowed Friday that he will sue the Washington Post for false reporting.

The Washington Post reported Friday that Nunes went to the White House to personally inform President Donald Trump that a senior intelligence official had briefed members of Congress that Russia was again attempting to aid his campaign. The Post also claimed that "Trump's suspicions of the intelligence community have often been fueled by Nunes."

But Nunes said on Fox News Friday that the Post's reporting is completely false and that he will sue the newspaper in federal court.

"I don't know what planet the Washington Post is on," he said. "But they'll have an opportunity in federal court in the next couple weeks to explain who their sources are, because I'm going to have to take them to court because I didn't go to the White House. I didn't talk to President Trump."

"So, this is the same garbage," Nunes said.

"They build a narrative, they plant the narrative, they write fake stories about it — things that shouldn't even be talked about, this classified information — and they run these stories." Nunes went on to say. "Who the hell is leaking these stories?"

Nunes has previously made good on threats to sue news networks.

The California Republican filed a $435 million lawsuit against CNN in December over a story that claimed Nunes once met with former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin "to discuss digging up dirt on Joe Biden."
