Joy Behar to sit out from 'The View' because of coronavirus: 'I'm in a higher risk group'

Joy Behar, one of the hosts of "The View," will announce Friday that she will be taking a break from the show because she's in a "higher risk" demographic for coronavirus, according to Variety.
Behar is reportedly pausing her participation on the show at the urging of her daughter. No one who works on "The View" has tested positive for coronavirus, and the show will be filmed without a live audience to lower the risk. But Behar, who is 77 years old, will take extra precaution.
"I'm in a higher risk group because of my age, but I'm perfectly healthy," Behar will say on a pre-taped segment of Friday's show. "I don't look my age, but I'm actually up there. The number makes me dizzy."
The other hosts: Whoopi Goldberg, Meghan McCain, and Sunny Hostin, will continue to appear on the show.
Behar has been critical of President Donald Trump's handling of the coronavirus crisis, and has suggested that Trump resign to let Vice President Mike Pence take over the issue.
"You know, don't you think that this is a good time for [Trump] to resign?" Behar has said on the show. "I mean, Pence has been shown to be rather capable, I believe. I feel a little more confident with Pence and [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony] Fauci at the helm. I do not feel any confidence with this guy."
The coronavirus known as COVID-19 is highly contagious, and is particularly dangerous to adults over the age of 60 or people who have underlying health conditions.
A study in China found that the overall fatality rate for coronavirus patients was around 2.3%, but it spikes to 15% for adults over the age of 80.
In the United States, health officials have not yet told people they have to fully self quarantine, but federal officials have encouraged "social distancing" methods to minimize contact with big crowds, and governors of several states have enacted bans on large gatherings of varying sizes.
