Video captures man trying to kidnap 10-year-old girl from the lawn of her home in California

A shocking video captured the moment a strange man lunged at a 10-year-old girl in an apparent kidnapping attempt in California.

Michael Angodung told KNSD-TV that he was playing volleyball with his daughter Kassidy in their front yard on Sunday when he took a break to go inside his Murrieta home and get some water.

That's all it took for a stranger to try to kidnap his daughter.

Surveillance video captured the man walking down the street before he stopped in front of Angodung's home and talked to the girl.

“Hey, what is that shirt? Let me see that shirt,” he can be heard saying on the video.

Then he lunged at the girl and chased her up the driveway.

Angodung's daughter rushed inside the home and yelled that the man was trying to kidnap her. The suspect simply walked off at the same pace as before.

Angodung says that he called the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, but the suspect rushed off before they arrived.

“As a father, as a parent, this is literally your worst nightmare,” he added.

Angodung says his daughter is traumatized by the incident and that she doesn't want to walk or bike to school anymore. She also has trouble sleeping.

"I'm mad. I'm furious, I don't want any parent to go through this sort of trauma or any kid to undergo this trauma again, and I just want to make sure this guy is caught,” Angodung said.

He went on to encourage parents to talk to their children about what to do when they're confronted by a threatening stranger.

Murrieta is a city with a population of about 100,000 in southern California.
