Update: LSU determines there is no threat after warning of reported armed intruder

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. EST: LSU has determined there is no threat to the campus community.

The Louisiana State University Police Department has issued an alert that an armed intruder has been reported on campus, and has told students and staff to "run, hide or fight" as officials continue to investigate.

What are the details?

At 3:54 p.m. EST the LSU official Twitter account sent out the message, "LSUPD: Reported armed intruder at Coates Hall. Run, Hide or Fight. LSUPD on scene. Monitor LSU.edu for further information."

The school also sent out a warning via text message to alert students.

Roughly one hour later, the LSU Twitter account sent out a message saying that "the situation is ongoing. No shots have been fired, and there are no injuries. Continue to avoid the area or remain in a safe place. We will post when we have more information."

WWL-TV reported that police have surrounded the area and Coates Hall has been evacuated. According to WAFB-TV, law enforcement is searching "room to room for the armed individual" but "at this time, no armed individual has been found."

Classes have not yet started for the semester at LSU. Reuters reported that the school has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 25,000 students.
