NRA gives Beto O'Rourke mock award over gun confiscation policies — and he's not gonna like it
September 22, 2019
'Possibly even the year...'
The National Rifle Association crowned Beto O'Rourke the "AR-15 salesman of the month" last week amid the Democratic presidential contender's anti-Second Amendment crusade.
The group even suggested that O'Rourke's anti-gun rhetoric could propel him to salesman of the year.
Since the El Paso tragedy last month, gun control has been O'Rourke's chief campaign issue.
The former Texas congressman has used the spotlight to advocate strict gun control, including mandatory confiscation of all AR-15 rifles and other similar semi-automatic firearms. Last week, O'Rourke confirmed there would be legal consequences for people who do not turn over their firearms if he were president.
Unfortunately for O'Rourke, seizing on the controversial issue has not helped his squandering campaign.
Indeed, even Democrats have criticized O'Rourke for his gun confiscation plan.
After the Democratic debate this month during which O'Rourke said "Hell yes, we're going to take your AR-15 and your AK-47," Democratic Sen. Chris Coons (Del.) warned that O'Rourke's rhetoric will backfire on Democrats.
"I frankly think that that clip will be played for years at Second Amendment rallies with organizations that try to scare people by saying that Democrats are coming for your guns," Coons said on CNN. "I don't think having our presidential candidates, like Congressman O'Rourke did, say that we're going to try and take people's guns against their will is a wise either policy or political move."
