Pelosi claims President Trump's coronavirus response is responsible for American deaths

'As the president fiddles, people are dying'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at President Donald Trump on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, partially blaming him for the increasing coronavirus death toll in the United States.

"The president, his denial at the beginning, was deadly. His delaying of getting equipment to where it continues his delaying in getting equipment to where it's needed, is deadly," Pelosi said.

"I don't know what the scientists are saying to him. I don't know what the scientists said to him. When did the president know about this and what did he know?" Pelosi continued. "What did he know and when did he know it? That's for an after-action review."

"As the president fiddles, people are dying," Pelosi said.

Pelosi went on to claim that Democrats "really want to work in a unifying way to get the job done here," but said that Trump is making that difficult.

However, Pelosi's recent actions suggest unity is not her goal.

Last weekend, the Senate came to a bipartisan agreement on a coronavirus relief package. But Pelosi torpedoed it — eventually introducing a pork-filled bill from House Democrats that would have cost taxpayers more than $2.5 trillion — and stalled relief efforts by nearly a week.

Fortunately, Congress was finally able to reach an agreement, and Trump signed a relief package, which included many of Pelosi's completely unrelated demands, into law on Friday.
