President Trump calls for Mitt Romney's impeachment: 'Pompous a**'
October 05, 2019
'He is so bad for R's!'
President Donald Trump attacked Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and called for his impeachment on Saturday after the Republican lawmaker criticized Trump's request that China investigate Joe Biden.
"I'm hearing that the Great People of Utah are considering their vote for their Pompous Senator, Mitt Romney, to be a big mistake. I agree! He is a fool who is playing right into the hands of the Do Nothing Democrats!" the president tweeted Saturday afternoon.
He added the all-caps hashtag, "#IMPEACHMITTROMNEY."
Trump's call for Romney's impeachment came hours after he unleashed on the Utah senator, calling him a "pompous a**" who "never knew how to win."
Trump said, "Somebody please wake up Mitt Romney and tell him that my conversation with the Ukrainian President was a congenial and very appropriate one, and my statement on China pertained to corruption, not politics. If Mitt worked this hard on Obama, he could have won. Sadly, he choked!"
"Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous 'ass' who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn't give it to him). He is so bad for R's!" he continued.
Trump's attacks come in response to Romney becoming one of the few Republicans to publicly criticize him.
On Thursday, Trump urged China to investigate Biden and his son, Hunter, while speaking to the media at the White House. Romney responded to Trump's comments Friday, calling them "wrong and appalling."
Romney was not the only Republican to break ranks to rebuke the president. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) have also condemned Trump's appeal to China.
