Time's Up CEO steps down after son accused of sexual assault

Organization says resignation was 'the right decision'

The president and CEO of victim's advocacy organization Time's Up has stepped down following sexual assault accusations leveled at her son.

What are the details?

Lisa Borders announced her departure on Instagram, saying she must resign "to address family concerns that require [her] singular focus."

The organization posted its own statement agreeing "it is the right decision for Lisa as well as the organization" for her to leave.

In a separate statement, Time's Up acknowledged that Borders' son had been accused of sexual assault and that within 24 hours of notifying leadership of the claims, she decided to resign.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Borders' son — a 36-year-old life coach named Garry "Dijon" Borders Jr. — was accused of violating a woman during a "healing session" where he allegedly kissed his client's neck, touched her genitalia, and brushed "his erect but clothed penis against her body."

His accuser, Celia Gellert, made the claims in a private Facebook post before going public to the Times. Garry Borders' attorney, Alan Jackson, says his client vehemently denies the allegations, and showed the Times a text exchange where Gellert thanked Borders for the "gentle and authentic and loving" massage.

The Times reported that in light of the allegations, Lisa Borders "suddenly found herself at odds with the core mission of Time's Up because of a desire to stand by a man — her son — facing allegations of sexual misconduct."

Time's Up was established in 2017 in the wake of the #MeToo movement. The group advocates for victims of discrimination, harassment, and abuse.

Anything else?

Prior to joining Time's Up, Lisa Borders served as president of the Women's National Basketball Association and vice president of global community affairs at Coca-Cola, Fox News reported.

According to CNN, Borders' resignation from Time's Up comes after less than two months on the job. She had recently been slated to appear on Oprah Winfrey's "SuperSoul Conversations" and to serve as commencement speaker at her alma mater, Duke University.
