Hysterical veteran activists hound Dan Crenshaw, follow him into a private elevator. Crenshaw's response is nothing short of classy.

Handled it like a pro

Veteran activists confronted Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) in Washington, D.C., on Thursday for supporting President Donald Trump.

What are the details?

Common Defense, a national grassroots activist group comprised of veterans and military families, posted video of the encounter on Twitter, insisting that Crenshaw "hid in an elevator" when the vets confronted him in the halls of the Cannon House Office Building.

In the video, two men identified as U.S. Army veterans Jason Hurd, 40, and Alan Pitts, 36, approached Crenshaw and berated him.

"How can you let a criminal like Donald Trump run roughshod over our democracy and shred everything that you and I fought for?" Hurd can be heard asking Crenshaw. "How can you just sit there idly by and not do your duty?"

"You cannot be complicit in this man's crimes. It is immoral," Hurd, becoming increasingly frantic, went on. "How are you going to let him just cozy up to dictators? How are you just going to let him lock kids up in cages?"

Crenshaw maintained his composure and patiently told Hurd to "calm down." He approached a members-only elevator and got in. Immediately, Hurd began to complain about Crenshaw not sharing the elevator with "a fellow veteran." Crenshaw pointed out that the elevator is a members-only elevator.

"You got to make your video. You didn't come here to have a conversation," Crenshaw said, gesturing for Hurd to leave the elevator. "As veterans we should be smarter about how we talk about things."

According to the video, Crenshaw clearly did not hide in the elevator, but simply rode it from one floor to another.

What else?

The two vets also spoke with Newsweek about the encounter, blasting Crenshaw for his "self-serving political ambitions."

"Congressman Dan Crenshaw seems to have a lot of time to go after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, so we expected him to have a few minutes to talk to some fellow combat vets," Pitts told Newsweek on Thursday evening after the videoed encounter went viral. "We've got no place in our veteran community for someone like Crenshaw, who puts his self-serving political ambitions above the oath all of us swore."

Hurd added, "I wanted to make the case to this politician that Trump has trampled on the Constitution we both swore to protect for long enough. I wish Dan Crenshaw would have taken the time to respectfully hear me out."
