Vogue editor Anna Wintour pointedly refuses to talk about Melania Trump during interview, wants to discuss Michelle Obama instead

Well, there's that

Vogue's Anna Wintour publicly snubbed first lady Melania Trump in a recent interview, opting instead to discuss former first lady Michelle Obama.

What are the details?

In an interview that aired on a podcast for The Economist, Wintour — British-American journalist and editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1988 — refused to address the current first lady.

At one point in the conversation, the outlet's Anne McElvoy asked Wintour to remark on Trump's wardrobe choices as the first lady of the United States of America.

"[Melania] I think, very consciously, wanted to see herself as an ambassador for British fashion, in this case, or a transatlantic ambassador," McElvoy said about Trump's visit to the United Kingdom in June. "I mean, do you value that?"

Wintour outright avoided the Trump reference in the question, and pointed directly to Obama, who has been on the cover of Vogue three times.

"Well, I think first lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible in every decision she made about fashion," Wintour responded. "She supported young American designers. She supported designers, indeed, from all over the world. She was the best ambassador this country could possibly have in many ways, obviously, way beyond fashion."

Not to be deterred, McElvoy broached the topic of Trump once more.

"But [Obama's] not the first lady now," McElvoy added. "So what about the one you've got now?"

Wintour was prepared to fight back.

"To me, [Obama] is the example that I admire," Wintour responded, outright refusing to address Trump at all.
