Meghan McCain takes a swipe at Trump at McCain’s funeral: ‘America was always great’

The grieving daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R) took a swipe at President Donald Trump at her father’s eulogy in Washington, D.C., during an emotional tribute.

Sen. McCain had a contentious relationship with the president and all that tension manifested at the late senator’s funeral.

Meghan McCain, who has denounced President Trump in the past, made no exception in front 3,000 at the Washington National Cathedral on Saturday morning.  She touted her dad’s reputation and bravery while besmirching President Trump’s reputation.

Here’s what she said:

We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness — the real thing. Not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he [John McCain] gave so willingly. Nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served. The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold. She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities. She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to. The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.

On Tuesday, Doc Thompson and Kris Cruz discussed the politicization of Sen. McCain’s funeral and Meghan McCain’s motivation for taking a hard swipe at the president.
