House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attempted to take a shot at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Friday by suggesting he should stop "shipping these immigrants up north" when farmers in Florida need them "to pick the crops" amid labor shortages.
"We have a shortage of workers in our country and you see even in Florida, some of the farmers and the growers saying 'why are you shipping these, um, imm-, immigrants up north?' We need them to pick the crops down here."
Twitter had a few things to say about Pelosi's blatantly racist assertion:
Asked about whether the southern border is secure, Pelosi said, "I believe that we have to have a secure border, and I think that we are trying to address, uh, the president has a plan to address that."
She went on to suggest that former President Donald Trump — whom she bitterly referred to as an "occasional occupant of the White House who preceded President Biden" — is to blame for the current border crisis, which has seen a record 3.8 million migrant encounters since President Joe Biden took office.
Pelosi then said something incoherent about having a responsibility to accept some of "these people" who "are either here to stay or not" but that "protecting the border is our responsibility" and, of course, that's exactly what the current administration "is doing."
