Not a single undamaged home': Parts of Puerto Rico still devastated from Hurricane Maria
March 20, 2018
Six months after Hurricane Maria devastated the island, some Puerto Rico residents are still fighting to regain power and repair their damaged homes.
Zac Bonesteel joined today's show to talk about his volunteer efforts in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, a municipality that was hit especially hard by the hurricane. All the homes in the area were damaged, and Puerto Rico’s infrastructure is making it extra tough to rebuild.
Doc pointed out that people in the mainland U.S. forget that Puerto Ricans are American citizens who need and deserve our support.
"People really have no clue that we're talking about Americans," he said. "Not American immigrants, kind of Americans. It is an American territory."
Bonesteel spent 10 days helping to fix homes and build a playground in Yabuoca, and he plans to return in the fall after more fundraising. Find his crowdfunding page here to learn more.
