31 percent of Americans say Barack Obama is the best president in their lifetime

In a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, more Americans said that former president Barack Obama is the best president in their lifetime. Four in ten Americans (44 percent) believe that Obama is the best or second best president in their lifetime while thirty-one percent believe he is the best in their lifetime.

Thirty-three percent of respondents say Bill Clinton is the best or second best president in their lifetime and 32 percent say Ronald Reagan is the best or second best in their lifetime.

Although President Trump isn't yet through with his first term, 19 percent of Americans already believe Trump has done the best job during their lifetime. In 2011, 20 percent of Americans believed Obama was one of the best presidents in their lifetime.

The survey included 2,002 adults in the month of June and posed the question in an open-ended format by asking: "Which president has done the best job during your lifetime?"

Each generation viewed each president differently and the responses changed depending on the age of the respondent. Adults between 22 to 37 unsurprisingly favored Obama while the older generations favored Reagan.
