Fox News anchor says Trump should never let Stephen Miller speak for him again

President Donald Trump’s aide Stephen Miller was applauded by many on the right for his extremely combative press briefing Wednesday, but Fox News host Eric Bolling dissented, saying that he needs to be taken away from the spokesperson role.

“Here’s the problem with what happened today,” Bolling said Wednesday on his Fox News show, “The Specialists.” “And I’m gonna bring this altogether right here.”

“Trump came out with an immigration policy that, certain parts of it I don’t like, but I think it’s really really important for the country,” he said. “Merit-based immigration is fantastic.”

“At the top of the list you have English-speaking, highly skilled people,” he explained, “and then you work your way down and you do it that way.”

“Conservatives are behind it, going, ‘about time! Awesome!’ and then they put Stephen Miller out there to deliver the message and look what we get,” he said.

“We get, listen, he’s a brilliant guy,” Bolling continued, “OK, he’s a great policy adviser. He’s not a communications person.”

“Don’t put that guy in front of the cameras again,” he emphasized. “And the message get stepped on because everyone is going to play that interchange with [CNN reporter Jim] Acosta instead of talking about how great this immigration policy is. They really have to fix their communications department.”

“That should never have happened,” he concluded.

Miller got into an extended debate with Acosta over whether the new immigration policies were motivated by racial and ethnic bias. Miller berated Acosta for the suggestion, saying, “Jim, that is one of the most outrageous, insulting, ignorant, and foolish things you’ve ever said.”

“The notion that you think that is a racist bill is so wrong, and so insulting, Jim,” he said.

Other Trump supporters loved the performance, and he was praised for attacking the press, and CNN in particular.

President Trump's senior policy adviser Stephen Miller got into a heated exchange with a reporter about the Statue of Liberty during a White House press briefing Wednesday. The meeting focused on immigration policy. Miller's comments came in response to a question from CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who quoted "The New Colossus," which is a poem about welcoming immigrants engraved on a plaque at the Statue of Liberty. The briefing also discussed a new Trump plan that could curtail legal immigration and give preference to people who speak English.
