Flashback: Rick Perry says idea of border fence is ‘nonsense’

Being a governor of a border state, I'm particularly interested in Texas Gov. Rick Perry's views on immigration and hope the issue might be brought up during tonight's debate.

As Stu and Pat discussed during this morning's 4th Hour radio broadcast, Perry has made some questionable statements in the past regarding our border security which might rub some conservatives the wrong way, including this past remark:

"The idea that we're going to build a wall is nonsense."

According to Rasmussen, the vast majority of Americans (68% as of 2010) favor building a solid border fence, while Perry says he prefers a "strategic fencing" method that relies more on technology than an actual physical barrier.  (I for one don't see why we can't compromise and do both.)

"The idea that you're going to build a wall from Brownsville to El Paso -- 1200 miles -- is a bit ludicrous to me," Perry says.

But I'm here (along with a few billion of my closest Chinese friends) to tell you that it can be done:

If they could dream up and build this behemoth marvel that spans an astonishing 3,889.5 miles with their bare hands beginning in the 5th century BC, isn't it a bit pathetic that with today's modern technology and engineering, building something a fraction of the size seems beyond possible?

And we haven't even discussed my plans for a border moat yet...
