We Know the Problem, but are Thad Cochran Republicans the Answer?

In years past, we could count on an opposition party to provide America an alternative solution to the problems associated with the party in power. Can the GOP be that solution?

Chris Salcedo is hosting the Pat & Stu show on TheBlaze TV Friday from noon to 2pm ET and on TheBlaze Radio from 5 to 7pm ET.

It is clear that the United States is suffering on almost every measure because of extremist left-wing policies being spawned from the most ideologically driven White House in American history. Given the naiveté and incompetence demonstrated during the Jimmy Carter Administration, that is saying something.

Resident Barack Obama and his extremist liberals are responsible for America’s reduced standing in the world; courtesy of his nutty, light-foot-print, lead-from-behind foreign policy. It’s a strategy predicated on the notion that America needs to be diminished so that other nations can rise, never mind that those nations are home to the biggest abusers of human rights in the world.

US President Barack Obama makes a statement on Iraq from the press briefing room at the White House in Washington, DC, June 19, 2014. Obama said Washington was prepared to send up to 300 military advisors to study how to train and equip Iraqi forces and had already increased its surveillance and intelligence capabilities in the country. Obama also ignores - or perhaps relishes - a world absent American leadership. With predictable catastrophes in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Ukraine and gathering threats in Iran, North Korea and an ever-aggressive Russia, we are treated to indecision instead of leadership, navel-gazing instead of productive action.

On the domestic front, our economy is shrinking. Jobs are scarce. Taxes are going up. Prices on everything from gasoline to beef, from fish to clothing, are going up and American’s wages are stagnant or going down.

Our nation faces a horrific wave of illegal immigrants storming our border that team Obama knew about in January, but kept secret from “We the People.” Our most powerful government agency has been used a political weapon against Obama’s ideological opposition. The administration has begun to hide the evidence of that abuse. And the Supreme Court has just revealed that Obama violated the Constitution of the United States in making recess appointments without waiting for the Congress to actually be in recess.

So it’s clear, Obama’s extremist liberals in the bureaucracy and elected to office are collectively responsible for America’s problems.

Speaker of the House John Boehner is asked about the special select committee he has formed to investigate the deadly 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, raising the stakes in a political battle with the Obama administration as the midterm election season heats up, during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, May 8, 2014. The National Republican Congressional Committee has issued a fundraising pitch on its website asking people to become a "Benghazi Watchdog" by donating money to GOP election efforts. Boehner has said that the examination would be "all about getting to the truth" of the Obama administration's response to the attack and would not be a partisan, election-year circus. (AP Photo/J. What’s less clear is if “Thad Cochran” Republicans are the solution to those problems.

Speaker of the House John Boehner has announced he’ll sue Obama. His rationale is that Obama is not doing his job in “faithfully executing the laws” of the United States. Boehner added that he’s standing up for the institution of the Congress while hastily adding that "this is not about impeachment."

Wait… Boehner is going to stand up for the Congress by appealing to the Judiciary?

The plan is to head to the courts to remedy Obama’s extremist activities during his term? It should only take a few years to wind its way through the courts. We should get this whole thing resolved by 2017 - long after Obama is out of office.

That’s the GOP’s plan?

Here’s a radical thought that the “Thad Cochran” Republicans might want to consider: Try using the authority granted to you under the Constitution to put a check on executive abuses.

It’s clear to me that Boehner and his “Thad Cochran” Republicans are committed to doing absolutely nothing of substance in an election year. The lawsuit - a stunt - is designed to fool the conservative base into believing that the establishment “Thad Cochran” Republicans hear them and value them.

Boehner and his elitist country club, “Thad Cochran” Republicans really have a poor opinion of their conservative base.

We can see this is an attempt to keep the money flowing to moderate GOP campaigns that appealed to Democrat sensibilities to beat more conservative rivals. We see there is little imagination or will to actually reign in the most extremist, left-wing president in American history.

We see the GOP actively hiding the fact that a white GOP president conducting himself in the same manner as Obama would have been impeached long ago. We see that the pursuit of power, taxpayer funded salaries and perks, and committee assignments are the top priority of the GOP leadership. We understand that they see us as useful idiots.

I’m very tempted to head to Mississippi and start the “WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?” campaign. Where I cannot bring myself to support an extremist liberal, I can point out that electing the Republican who apparently has the same value system of that liberal, affords the folks of Mississippi no choice in the election this fall. Either way, The Magnolia State will elect a liberal.

America can’t expect the campaigner-in-chief to get to work. There are vacations with Michelle, golf outings and fundraisers to attend after all. But I expect the GOP to be grown up enough not to lower themselves to such a feckless level. With his lawsuit announcement this week, Boehner has done just that.

Message to Boehner: The answer to America’s lawless liberal affliction is found in the U.S. Constitution. Look it up sometime. It details your wide-ranging authority to push back against an extremist tyrant like Obama. If the best you can do is sue, you cease being an opposition party and a solution for Americans. You instead become part of the problem.
