Singer Chris Brown in custody in Paris on rape accusations

His bodyguard and another person have also been taken into custody

French police took Chris Brown into custody after a woman accused the 29-year-old singer of rape, according to officials. Brown's bodyguard and another person were also arrested.

A woman filed a complaint against Brown in the 17th arrondissement of northwest Paris, a police official told The Associated Press Tuesday. Authorities have two days to investigate the accusations and decide whether or not to file preliminary charges or release him.

Two Paris officials spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity, saying they weren't authorized to discuss the investigation. Brown has remained in custody since being detained Monday in Paris.

What's the story?

A 24-year-old woman told police that Brown raped her in his hotel suite last week in Paris, according to BBC News.

She allegedly met the Grammy Award-winning artist at the Le Crystal nightclub in central Paris near the Champs-Elysees. The woman told police she then accompanied Brown and his friends to his hotel room at the Mandarin Oriental in central Paris.

The singer last posted to his Instagram account on Monday from the LAX Studio in Paris.

What else?

Brown has faced multiple run-ins with the law in recent years.

In 2009, he was arrested for physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Rhianna. The singer pleaded guilty to felony assault in the case and completed probation in 2015.

Two years ago, Brown's ex-girlfriend, model Karrueche Tran, was granted a five-year restraining order against him.

Last spring, the artist was accused of hosting a "drug-fueled orgy" at his Los Angeles mansion where a woman accused two men at the party of sexual assault, NBC News reported.

And last month, Brown was charged in Los Angeles with two counts of having a capuchin monkey without a permit. He's due in court next month.

Brown's publicists have not yet issued any comment about the most recent incident.
