2 Las Vegas men busted by undercover officer for trying to sell 100 pounds of magic mushrooms: Report

Two men in Las Vegas were arrested on charges of reportedly attempting to sell 100 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms.

Kyle Shurtz, 54, and Justin Slade, 48 are both facing charges of trafficking a controlled substance more than 400 grams. KLAS-TV reported that the Drug Enforcement Administration Group 3 Task Force kicked off an investigation in August in which Shurtz was a primary target.

An undercover officer met with Shurtz, who gave the officer 7.00 GG of what has been reported to be psilocybin mushrooms, widely known as a psychedelic substance. The sample was apparently provided to the officer at no charge.

During the meeting between the officer and Shurtz, there was discussion of a future transaction of 100 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms sold for $60,000, per the report.

Just over two weeks later, on September 14, the undercover officer and Shurtz agreed to meet to carry out a business deal in a commercial complex. The sale of the 100 pounds of mushrooms was to be completed at that time.

Around 3:30 p.m. that day, Shurtz met the officer in the parking lot of a gas station. When Shurtz got there, he said that he wanted to carry out the transaction at a warehouse since the mushrooms were reportedly packaged in eight large bags. He also mentioned that it would make the process easier since there was a money counter so that they could verify the funds.

When Shurtz offered to introduce the officer to his partner, Slade, the officer refused. Negotiations ensued, and Shurtz eventually made his way to a business in the same commercial complex. During this time, detectives reportedly maintained surveillance on Shurtz, who entered the building with an empty bag.

Shortly after, the authorities said that Shurtz exited the building with the bag full.

Shurtz went back to the parking lot where the officer was waiting and showed him proof that the psilocybin mushrooms were real. It was shortly after this that the officer gave the arrest signal, and Shurtz was soon taken into custody.

Slade was later found in the warehouse, and he was taken into custody as well.

Detectives searched the warehouse, finding a total of 48,330 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, about 106 pounds. There was also a duffel bag containing mushrooms and $2,500.

Shurtz and Slade are expected to appear in court on Tuesday, per the report.
