Fecal matter found in drinks from several popular fast-food chains

A watchdog television program in the United Kingdom has given fast-food consumers a tidbit of information they likely didn't want to know: Their drinks are contaminated with fecal matter.

The BBC Watchdog program investigators tested fast-food chain locations at random, including KFC, Burger King, and McDonald's. To be exact, they tested samples from three different McDonald’s locations, six samples from Burger King restaurants, and seven KFC locations.

Even though the levels of bacteria should be zero, four of the ice samples from Burger King and five samples from KFC were found to have ‘significant’ levels of coliform bacteria, according to Metro.

After finding out the results of the investigation, KFC immediately shut down the ice machines in question so it could begin its own inspection, and said it had "reinforced the importance of adhering to our strict procedures to all employees."

"We are awaiting the results of independent testing of the ice that will confirm they are back up to the standards we expect. To reassure customers, we have also inspected and cleaned the ice machines in all other restaurants across the UK," a KFC spokesperson told Metro.

Burger King said it would make sure all employees understood the correct procedures and standards in their training, and McDonald's said it wants to cooperate with industry experts on "ensuring a standard for ice contamination."
