Central American migrants cross the shallow concrete waterway of the bordering Tijuana River on Sunday as they try to reach the El Chaparral border crossing point in Tijuana, Baja California State, Mexico. Leftists were outraged that border patrol agents used tear gas on those who tried to illegally enter the U.S. Sunday, even though rocks were thrown at agents. Leftists have been predictably outraged at Border Patrol agents — and the administration of President Donald Trump they operate under — for using tear gas to prevent migrants from breaching the U.S.-Mexico border at Tijuana Sunday.
For instance, actress-turned-activist Alyssa Milano fired a familiar volley at Trump on Twitter: "You tear-gassed women and children, asswipe! And on Thanksgiving weekend, you piece of s**t, a**hole, motherf***ing, evil-creature-person!!"
The always-entertaining former "Star Trek" cast member George Takei joined the fray as well:
And Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — the newly elected U.S. representative from New York — responded to a photo of a family running from tear gas by saying migrants who apply for refugee status are akin to Jews fleeing the Holocaust:
Not the whole story
Nevermind that the chief patrol agent of the San Diego Border Patrol sector told CNN Monday morning that the “vast majority” of migrants they’re dealing with are “adult males” and that the group threw rocks at agents on Sunday. Or that Mexico’s Interior Ministry said around 500 migrants tried to “violently” enter the U.S., the Associated Press reported, adding that it would immediately deport those people and would reinforce security.
It happened under Obama, too
One also might inquire where the widespread left-wing outrage was five years ago when about 100 people tried to illegally cross the border near the San Ysidro, California, port of entry — and threw rocks and bottles at Border Patrol agents — and those agents responded by pepper spraying the crowd back into Mexico, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
“If it was a protest, it was a really stupid way to go about it because there were individuals who started throwing rocks and other projectiles,” Shawn Moran, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, told the paper of the Nov. 24, 2013, incident. “It’s not the right venue; agents do not enact legislation, don’t write laws or write polices. If protesters want to address Congress and try to change laws, so be it.”
Others pointed out that Obama's Border Patrol used force to repel violent would-be crossers. Funny what a difference a few years makes:
