Man cries, fearing he'll be seen as racist for calling police on homeless man who allegedly threatened to stab his family

Body-camera footage from Dekalb County, Georgia, showed a man sobbing during his interaction with police, as he was worried he would be seen as racist or unsympathetic to homeless people for causing the arrest of a man who allegedly threaten to stab his family.

Police responded to the incident in Flowers Park in Doraville, Georgia, where a man allegedly brandished a knife and threatened a family, according to CrimeCamNow.

The suspect reportedly claimed he was actually sitting peacefully in the park on May 18, 2022, when the family started screaming at him for no reason and the children in the family were insulting him.

However, the family claimed that the children were on the playground when they unintentionally woke up the man while he was trying to sleep.

The man allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and threatened the family.

After the suspect's apprehension, the man who called police had an interaction with law enforcement that was captured on police-worn body cameras.

When an officer told the man, "I'll need you to fill out a statement form," the man responded by saying, "I don't want him arrested, I just want him to leave us alone."

"But he had a weapon on him and made terrorist threats," the officer replied.

Shockingly, the victim began defending the legalities of the suspect's actions. "Brandishing is not a crime with a knife, brandishing is only a crime with a gun," he claimed.

"Terroristic threats, though, sir," the officer said.

"Because he said 'die' to me and had his knife out?" the man questioned. "If I thought you were going to arrest him, I would never have called. I just wanted him to leave us alone," the man continued as he began getting visibly and audibly emotional.

"Now he's gonna think I'm doing this because I'm white and he's black! Or he's homeless and I'm not! I don't want that!" the man explained while sobbing.

After the police officer confirmed with the victim that the suspect indeed made threats, the man reaffirmed, "I don't want him thinking I did it because he's in whatever situation he's in. I just want him to leave us alone."

According to multiple reports, the suspect was arrested and charged with simple assault and terroristic threats and taken to the Dekalb County jail.
