Elon Musk threatens to sue ADL for allegedly pressuring X to suspend accounts, causing massive revenue losses

Elon Musk threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League on Monday for allegedly pressuring X, formerly known as Twitter, to suspend accounts and causing massive advertising revenue losses.

According to Musk, the ADL has been pushing social media platforms, including X, to suspend accounts based on "unfounded accusations."

"Since the acquisition, The @ADL has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic," Musk wrote on X.

He blamed the ADL for a drop in X's advertising revenue.

"Our US advertising revenue is still down 60%, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that's what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!" Musk added.

Musk claimed that the organization was directly responsible for "destroying half the value of the company, so roughly $22 billion."

"Based on what we've heard from advertisers, ADL seems to be responsible for most of our revenue loss," Musk explained. "Giving them maximum benefit of the doubt, I don't see any scenario where they're responsible for less than 10% of the value destruction, so ~$4 billion."

He claimed that the ADL has been pushing for social media platforms, including X, to shut down accounts like Libs of TikTok, operated by Chaya Raichik.

"ADL has pushed hard for us to shut down accounts like Chaya's, even though it has nothing to do with anti-Semitism, which is their supposed charter!" Musk stated.

Libs of TikTok urged Musk to release all communication between the ADL and X "so we can all see their true intentions."

Musk agreed that sharing the information would "clear the air," but noted that it might not be released until next week.

He threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against the ADL if the group continued to pressure advertisers.

"To clear our platform's name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!" Musk stated.

"Advertisers avoid controversy, so all that is needed for ADL to crush our US & European ad revenue is to make unfounded accusations. They have much less power in Asia, so our ad revenue there is still strong," he continued. "This 'controversy' causes advertisers to 'pause,' but that pause is permanent until ADL gives the green light, which they will not do without us agreeing to secretly suspend or shadowban any account they don't like. That is the relationship they've had with X/Twitter for many years. Presumably, they have that with all western search or social media orgs."

"If they lose the defamation suit, we will insist that they drop the the 'anti' part of their name, since obviously…" Musk added.

Musk clarified that he supports free speech and is "against anti-Semitism of any kind."

One X user described the ADL as having previously been a "great" and "noble" organization that has since "become far left Democrat propaganda mouthpieces," to which Musk replied, "True."

An ADL spokesperson noted that the organization does not comment on possible legal action.

"ADL is unsurprised yet undeterred that antisemites, white supremacists, conspiracy theorists and other trolls have launched a coordinated attack on our organization. This type of thing is nothing new," the spokesperson stated.

"This onslaught comes following our participation in the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington, where ADL proudly marched shoulder-to-shoulder with African-American leaders and those from other minority communities. It also follows a meeting with the leadership of X, formerly known as Twitter, that clearly upset these hateful groups," the statement continued. "Such insidious efforts don't daunt us. Instead, they drive us to be unflinching in our commitment to fight hate in all its forms and ensure the safety of Jewish communities and other marginalized groups."
