Grandmom, 75, lets her rifle do the talking when suspect on run from cops won't stop walking toward her porch. His mind changes instantly.

Allie Ruth Black, 15, told WAAY-TV she was sitting at the dinner table Monday evening with her 75-year-old grandmother Marcia Black when she spotted a shirtless, shoeless man standing at the end of her grandmother's driveway in Limestone County, Alabama.

Turns out that man was Cameron Powers, who had crashed a stolen vehicle during a high-speed chase four hours earlier, the station said.

To say the least, Black and her grandmother were suspicious.

What happened next?

Allie Ruth Black called 911, and Marcia Black grabbed a rifle, WAAY reported.

"I walked out and said, 'Can I help you?'" Marcia Black told CNN.

"And he said, 'Yes, ma'am, I'd like to use your phone,'" she recalled to the cable network.

Allie Ruth Black said her grandmother confronted the man about the crash that occurred just down the road from her home, WAAY added.

"He said, 'No, ma'am, I don't know what you're talking about,'" Allie Ruth Black noted to the station.

Standing on her porch, Marcia Black told Powers to get on the ground, CNN said, but he wouldn't comply and kept inching closer to her home. So Grandmom got protective of her two grandkids inside.

"So I shot in the air," she told the cable network, "and he realized I meant business, so he got down on his knees."

Marcia Black added to CNN that "I wanted to keep him at a distance. I didn't intend to kill him. I just wanted him to think that I would shoot him" and that "I was just calm as could be. I knew what I was doing. I was in control."

How did Black's granddaughter react?

"Our jaws just dropped," Allie Ruth Black told WAAY. "We thought, 'Wow, my grandmother is the coolest person on the planet. This is a story that I'm going to get to tell my grandkids one day."

Help arrives

Soon deputies arrived — and believe it or not, the suspect took off running again.

"He feared the deputy more than he feared my rifle," Marcia Black told WAAY. "And he jumped up and ran zigzag right across the field."

But the station said he didn't make it too far and was put in handcuffs, adding that Powers was booked into jail on $6,000 bond.
