On Monday’s “Pat & Stu,” Pat Gray wondered why President Donald Trump’s supporters aren’t pressuring the White House more on immigration.
“He explicitly said DREAMers can stay. It’s his policy. They stay in the country. That’s not the kind of rhetoric he was giving us during the campaign,” Pat said. “This was his issue, and he’s turning really bad on it.”
The guys took a look at Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly’s recent remarks where he said law enforcement is cracking down only on criminals, not illegal immigrants who haven’t committed crimes. “Tell the illegal immigrant community, if you are simply here illegally, we don’t really have the time to go after you. We’re looking for bad men and women,” Kelly said.
Pat pointed out that Trump was supposed to be “so tough” on immigration and the border.
“Ann Coulter didn’t care about any other issue,” he noted. “And [Trump's policy now] is like, ‘Relax, don’t worry about it, nobody is coming for you.’”
Trump has said that his administration will allow “DREAMers,” illegal immigrants protected by former President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, to stay in the country.
"Here is what they can hear: The ‘DREAMers’ should rest easy,’’ Trump said in a recent interview.
Stu Burguiere pointed out that if you don’t like a Trump policy, you should wait until the wind changes.
“If you want to give Trump the benefit of the doubt here, I think you could say that nothing he says has any value,” Stu said. “He could easily reverse this in a month.”
