University bans 'harsh text messages' as part of Cyberbullying and Cyber Harassment Policy

The College Fix is reporting that the University of West Alabama has banned "harsh text messages" under their Cyberbullying and Cyber Harassment Policy. The new policy is defined as “conduct that disrupts the educational environment of the university” and includes “harsh text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.”

Some examples given by the university include “instances where social media can cause harm to the university or member of the UWA community” such as “harsh text messages” and “rumors.” Campus civil rights advocacy group, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, gave the school's policy a low rating for "substantial restriction on constitutionally protected expression."

On Friday's segment of "Chewing the Fat" with Jeff Fisher, Pat, Kieth, and Jeffy admitted that while they don't condone cyberbullying in any way, this sort of "sissifying" college students isn't the way to go. "What if it's like five frowny faces?" asked Pat.
