Comedian Steve Harvey Was Once an Unhappy College Drop-Out Living in a Car, but God Changed All That

"I wasn't who I wanted to be in life."

Comedian and TV host Steve Harvey was once a college dropout who was homeless and living in a car for three years. He was, by his own admission, an unhappy person.

But Harvey said that finding love and forming a relationship with God helped change all of that.

The "Family Feud" and "Steve Harvey Show" host, who is a Christian, told HuffPo Live on Wednesday that meeting his third wife Marjorie Bridges had a profound impact on his life, explaining that he "wasn't depressed," but that he simply "wasn't happy" before he met her.

"I wasn't who I wanted to be in life," he said. "A woman changed all that."

Harvey said that Bridges gave him a chance to be himself, and he said that God, too, played a major role in helping move him forward in life.

"[Bridges] taught me a lot about myself. And then I found the inner joy and peace in myself and then changed my relationship with my creator," he said. "I started talking to him more often. I figured he probably knew more about where I ought to go than I did. He started showing me some stuff, and she started showing me stuff."

Watch Harvey discuss his wife and his relationship with God below:

Before long, Harvey said that he began developing a new person inside of himself.

"The real me was able to come out," he said. "I turned into a guy that was trying to help a lot of people and trying to put a smile on a lot of peoples' face."

Harvey is no stranger to speaking about God, crediting the Almighty for his decades-long stand-up career during a show back in 2012.

"God has given me a life far beyond anything I ever dreamed about. God is, man, God is something else man," Harvey said, also crediting his wife for helping make him a better man. "I want to thank Marjorie for skyrocketing my life. I wasn't doing good until you came along, girl. I [surely] thank you."
