The New York Daily News says it received a "surprise" call from ex-Fox News chief Roger Ailes after the newspaper published an article in which it compared sexual harassment allegations that ended his career to allegations against ex-Viacom executive Sumner Redstone.
“I was hoping you would be a gentleman and apologize,” Ailes reportedly told the paper. Ailes' attorney, Mark Mukasey, said the disgraced cable news executive made the call because he wanted to make clear that he denies the allegations made against him by multiple women at Fox News.
Calling the Daily News article a "laughable stunt," Mukasey added: "Roger should not be compared to anybody else. He’s an icon, a legend, a visionary — and he’ll be back."
The article in question was originally published Sunday under the headline, "Gropey Old Men." The same article now bears a different title: "Sumner Redstone, Roger Ailes show how the mighty old creeps have fallen."
Sumner, 93, has been accused of paying up to millions of dollars to multiple women who gave him "sexual favors," according to CNBC.
Ailes, 76, resigned from Fox News in July amid allegations that he sexually harassed multiple women at the network, including former Fox News host Gretchen Carlso, who filed a legal complaint against Ailes in July.
