Levin: What's happening in Venezuela is 'the main difference between socialism and capitalism: Government coercion'

Tuesday on the radio, in light of Juan Guaido's call for a military uprising against the dictator of Venezuela earlier Tuesday, LevinTV host Mark Levin reminded listeners what socialism actually means and why it's antithetical to American core values.

"What is the main difference between socialism and capitalism? Government coercion. It's the iron fist versus the invisible hand. Socialism is fake. Marxism is fake. And so I hear people today struggling, trying to explain what the real differences are. The Constitution? Yes, of course. But every non-socialist state doesn't have a constitution, necessarily. Ours is fantastic, although we honor it in the breach, I'm afraid. There's a human factor. Socialism goes against natural law. Socialism crushes individualism," Levin said.

Levin read from his 2012 book "Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America" and modern philosopher Karl Popper to deconstruct the utopian ideals behind socialist ideology.

"When you hear Bernie Sanders, or Maduro, or before him Chavez, or Castro, or the rest — they are preaching lies, they are preaching impossibilities, they are preaching utopianism. And behind utopianism is always the iron fist, the police state," Levin said.

Listen:

Levin explained that the state takes control of the individual by first taking away his spirit, making him reliant on the state for happiness, rather than taking responsibility for himself.

"The individual must be stripped of his identity and subordinated to the state. He must abandon his own ambitions for the ambitions of the state. He must become reliant on and fearful of the state. His first duty must be to the state, not family, community, and faith, all of which challenge the authority of the state. And once dispirited, the individual can be molded by the state, with endless social experiments and lifestyle calibrations," Levin said.

"This best describes what's going on in Venezuela. This also best describes the mindset of the Left and the Democrat party -- and where they would drag this country."
