On Thursday, House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., indicated to reporters that she would rather keep the government shut down indefinitely than send a bill to President Trump's desk that funds a border wall.
Asked why President Trump would sign a Democratic bill that doesn't include wall funding, Pelosi replied, "Does he want to have government closed forever?"
Congress must pass an appropriations bill to fund the government before the year's end. Failing to do so will cause a partial government shutdown. President Trump on Tuesday vowed to take responsibility if the government shuts down, saying he would be "proud to shut down the government for border security," and insisting that Democrats fund the wall or close up shop.
Either Trump or the Democrats will have to cave, and whoever caves first will face angry voters.
