Poll: Vast majority of Americans oppose unrestricted abortion-on-demand

Conservative Review

Gallup's annual Values and Beliefs poll results released Monday showed that only 29 percent of Americans say abortion should be legal under all circumstances, while 53 percent want all or most abortions made illegal.

The poll results show that though Americans still do not overwhelmingly favor an outright ban on abortion, the majority at least “want limits on abortions,” Gallup said.

As in past years, the percentage who voted pro-choice was virtually equal to the percentage who voted pro-life – both were 48 percent – but of those who said abortion should be “legal under certain circumstances,” most of the respondents said in a follow-up question that “it should be legal ‘only in a few’ rather than in ‘most’ circumstances,” LifeNews.com reported.

Even though Gallup reported record highs in “the percentages of U.S. adults who believe birth control, divorce, sex between unmarried people, gay or lesbian relations, having a baby outside of marriage, doctor-assisted suicide, pornography and polygamy are morally acceptable practices,” the percentage who see abortion as morally acceptable was lower than those who see the practice as morally wrong.

The Democratic Party’s position of unrestricted abortion is too extreme for mainstream America.
