Video: Jeep's 'Groundhog Day' Super Bowl ad starring Bill Murray is hailed as 'genius' revival of 1993 film
February 02, 2020
'An outstanding revival' of the classic 1993 film
It's only fitting that Jeep has taken advantage of Super Bowl Sunday landing on Groundhog Day by running an ad starring none other than Bill Murray.
The one-minute commercial features Murray stuck in another endless loop in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Only this time, Murray eagerly wakes up each morning to Sonny and Cher's "I've Got You Babe" to join a four-legged friend, legendary groundhog "Punxsutawney Phil," on adventures in scenes reminiscent of the classic 1993 movie — all in their new Jeep Gladiator pick-up truck.
The ad has been deemed as "genius" by advertising magazine Adweek and "an outstanding revival" of the film. And speaking of Punxsutawney Phil, the popular groundhog could not find his shadow today, which means we are due for an early spring.
In the meantime, count this writer among those who can watch this lovable ad on an endless loop for whatever might be left of the winter season.
