13-year-old girl stabs classmate with box cutter over social media dispute

The classmate, a 14-year-old boy, is in serious condition

An unidentified 13-year-old girl stabbed a male classmate, 14, with a box cutter, according to WLNY-TV.

The station reported that the attack at a New York City high school came on the heels of a social media dispute.

What are the details?

According to investigators, the two teens were locked in a dispute, which took place over the weekend and centered on a SnapChat post.

The content of the SnapChat post has not been revealed at the time of this writing.

Investigators say that the feud continued into this week, and on Wednesday, the boy reportedly spat in the girl's face. In response, the girl stabbed the boy in his shoulder with a box cutter.

The physical altercation took place in the cafeteria at the teens' school, Hostos-Lincoln Academy of Science in New York City's Bronx neighborhood — according to WABC-TV.

WABC reported the following statement from the Department of Education.

NYPD and EMS immediately responded to an incident this afternoon, and an individual was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Weapons of any kind have absolutely no place in our schools, and we are adding more security measures to this building.

Authorities took the girl into custody in connection with the incident. Charges are pending.
