Mother in Burning Building Drops Baby From Window Into Arms of Stranger

A Georgia woman was faced with the unthinkable Wednesday: remain with her children trapped in a burning building, or drop her 3-year-old and 2-month-old from the third floor into the arms of a stranger. Mother Ashley Brown chose to put her faith in Lawrence Fort, an unknown neighbor at the time who had been frantically knocking on doors within the apartment complex to let neighbors know that a fire had broke out in his kitchen.

"I just told her to drop the baby, and I promised her I'd catch it, so I had to catch the baby," Fort told WSBTV.

Cell phone video showed that Brown tied a rope to the window and lowered the 3-year-old and herself. In addition to Brown and her children, 'WSBTV reports that a cat named Kat survived after being tossed from a third-floor window.

The Browns survived the fire without any personal injuries and police said four people were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
