Booming: America's sperm exports

There's a lot to be about the decline of goods exported from America. There's even more to be said about the increasing global demand for American sperm.

U.S. sperm sales are highest in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Israel, Australia, Chile, Spain and Sweden, and demand is set to increase even more in the years ahead.

“In the last three years, we have shipped to about 60 countries,” said Scott Brown, a spokesman for California Cryobank, the largest sperm bank in the world with $23 million in sales last year.

These countries also allow sperm donation, obviously, but believe it or not, laws in the U.S. are more accommodating to donors. For example, unlike in much of Western Europe, sperm donors in the U.S. can remain anonymous. And unlike in Australia, Americans can make pretty good money donating.

Made in America.
