Yes, Hillary Clinton Actually Wore Mardi Gras Beads and Funky Glasses During a Swearing-In Ceremony

“I have pantsuits in nearly every color – except purple.”

Your eyes aren't deceiving you: below are pictures of Hillary Clinton wearing purple Mardi Gras beads and some of the funkiest glasses we've seen.

So what prompted the wardrobe choice? Well, Clinton was overseeing the swearing-in of Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Hammer. Apparently, Hammer is quite the fan of the color purple -- and it's well known around the State Department.

“Mike, I was in a real dilemma,” Clinton quipped. “I have pantsuits in nearly every color – except purple,” she said as the crowd laughed.

According to ABC, "Clinton took off the glasses during part of her very personal speech reflecting on Hammer and his record of public service at both the White House and the State Department," but she put them back on during the oath of office.

Funny, yes. But some have emailed us wondering if it is also disrespectful. The oath of office is quite a serious matter, and it invokes upholding and defending the Constitution. Some of suggested this is an example of how the administration makes a joke out of the founding document.
