Was Michael Jackson Pro-Life? Singer Defends the Unborn & Cites the Bible in Previously-Unreleased Song

Pop singer Michael Jackson was certainly revered by many -- but he also had his fair share detractors. A controversial character, the late performer was undoubtedly divisive.

While he was known for his epic legal battles and a perfected ability to entertain, Jackson wasn't particularly cued into the sociopolitical circuit. However, a new, previously-unreleased song put out by Sony Records to commemorate the 25th anniversary edition of the singer's album "Bad" features Jackson citing the Bible and defending unborn children.

The tune, entitled, "Song Groove" or "Abortion Papers," was recorded in the 1980s and is just now seeing the light of day. The song's origins, at least in terms of the time frame in which it was recorded, are noteworthy. After all, it was 1973 when the Supreme Court's controversial Roe vs. Wade decision was handed down -- the law allowing women, in America, the option to seek abortions.

Like many of his other tunes, the song has a bumping beat, despite its somewhat tragic social commentary. Throughout its lyrics, which repeatedly cite "abortion papers" and "the word of God," Jackson sings about a woman who is considering whether or not to undergo the procedure.

"Those abortion papers, signed in your name against the words of God," Jackson sings in the chorus, continuing, "Those abortion papers, think about life, I'd like to have my child."

Naturally, these lyrics call into question Jackson's own views on abortion and whether he was pro-life. The singer, who died in 2009 after taking a lethal dose of Propofol and sedatives, continues to be an anomaly.
