Yes, Really: Incoming Dem. Staffer Does a Cartwheel for Luck Before House Office Lotto

Turns out winning the election was only half the battle.

On Friday, newly-elected members of the House of Representatives crossed their fingers and hoped for luck in their other big face-off: the lottery to pick the best available office space on Capitol Hill.

But some didn't stop at crossing their fingers: there was dancing, moonwalking and yes, even a cartwheel, all with the hope that it would tempt fate a little more in their direction.

Rep.-elect Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) "shimmied and danced" before drawing the No. 1 spot. Democrat Eric Swalwell of California didn't have the same luck, picking No. 61 despite playing Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" on his phone as pump-up music.

Rep.-elect Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.) moonwalked and did the robot before having to settle for No. 34.

But it was Allison Jaslow, the incoming chief of staff for Rep.-elect Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.), who topped them all.

Bustos was doing an interview and sent Jaslow in her stead. Jaslow went up to the table, set her papers down, took a few steps back and removed her congressional ID lanyard. Then, with the crowd clapping in time, Jaslow executed a perfect cartwheel, throwing up her arms to stick the landing.

The result? A prime, promising No. 10.

"There was a desire for theater," Jaslow told Fox News afterward.

"We have an athletic chief of staff," Bustos said. "It brought us luck because she drew so well. We got our third choice."
