The tone of this cover seems to signal a big shift in TIME's impression of Rubio. Just two years ago, the magazine marked Rubio's election with a very different sort of cover story. In 2010, TIME didn't see Rubio as the voice of the party; he was a "party crasher" who won by riding a wave of "voter rage":
