Washington Times editors make lemonade out of cicadas

Editorials in the Washington Times aren't known for their sunny disposition. They're often bitter, saying things like President Obama won reelection because more than half the country's women didn't vote "for their real concerns."

But a Tuesday editorial contains an unusually-cheery spin on the coming swarm of cicadas to the Washington, D.C. area...

Cicadas smell bad after they die, their shrill sound can be profoundly annoying, they’re not friends of plants and they make an unpleasant crunch under a human (well-shod) foot. Females lay their eggs in young plants and trees with little regard for the plant’s welfare.

However, there may be a healthy revenge. A new report from the United Nations promotes an insect diet.
