I believe we need to devote time daily towards racial cleansing & reconciliation. Just another step on the road to becoming #color blind.— Donna Brazile (@donnabrazile) July 3, 2013
We've reached out to CNN contributor Donna Brazile to explain the term "racial cleansing," which, when Google searched, renders results related to "ethnic cleansing." One website pounced on the link.
"Cleansing of past sins of racism, slavery, Jim Crow and segregation," she said by email. "Steps on the path towards racial reconciliation. Similar to the path used in South Africa post apartheid."
Brazile added, "there is so much ignorance, stupidity, insularity and arrogance that surrounds our conversation about race. Usually exploited to arouse anger or racial animus. My point is simply that to get beyond race, as Justice Harry Blackmun once wrote, we have to take account of race."
