Police Search for Man Who Etched Swastika Into Elevator Button at Google's NYC Office Building

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is looking for a man who etched a swastika into an elevator button at Google's New York City office building.

The individual apparently scratched the offensive symbol on the button last Thursday evening, and the act was purportedly caught on camera. The Daily News reports that the man, based on security footage, seems to be heavyset, in his 40s and he was wearing an orange t-shirt at the time of the incident.

It's unclear why the swastika was placed on the elevator button. In addition to Google, the building hosts the Jewish Agency for Israel, Banana Republic and Starbucks, the New York Post reports. Whether one of these groups or companies was a target remains to be seen.

The culprit left the building around 10:30 p.m. after inscribing the symbol. He faces criminal mischief charges.
