What is Christmas like in Glenn Beck's household? On Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET, Blaze TV subscribers get to take an intimate look at how the family celebrates in the special, "Searching for Grandpa's Christmas."
Filmed at Beck's ranch in Idaho, the show follows Beck and his family as they celebrate Christmas the "old-fashioned way." They chop their own tree, tell each other stories and exchange simple but meaningful gifts in an effort to rediscover the magic of "grandpa's Christmas."
Beck said he told his producers before the show: "I don't want any script. I don't want anything planned. I don't want, you know ... stop with the reality stuff. I hate reality shows because none of it's real."
"I just want to be with my family, plan Christmas, read to the kids, and I want you to give a glimpse into my life of what it's really like with us as ... we're trying to find meaning and put things together," he said.
Throughout the show, Beck searches for "the kind of Christmas" his grandparents used to provide and mulls the idea that we have deviated from what the holiday is actually about.
Has some of the magic of the holiday disappeared as we exchanged selflessly bringing joy to others for extravagant gifts valued primarily for their price tag?
Beck said he was thrilled when he saw the special, describing how he and his son "were just laughing" as they watched it.
"I thought to myself, 'I've learned things about my family watching this,'" Beck remarked. "It is really, truly who our family is and Christmastime with our family in the mountains. And this was extraordinarily difficult for my staff to do and to pull off, and they have come through again with flying colors."
