Audio Emerges of Prominent Football Commentators Doing Broadcast While High on Second-Hand Marijuana Smoke

Last week, two prominent NFL commentators admitted to accidentally getting high on second-hand marijuana smoke during a broadcast more than a decade ago. This week, the audio from said broadcast emerged.

Boomer Esiason, a retired NFL quarterback turned commentator, revealed the incident that occurred in Dec. 2000 while he was broadcasting with commentator Matt Millen in his first year on Monday Night Football radio. The admission came on Friday's “Boomer & Carton” WFAN show with co-host Craig Carton after they had been discussing a Jets player who had allegedly been found in possession of synthetic marijuana.

“Listen, don’t even pretend like you’re Mr. Innocent," Carton said to Esiason.

"I did get high. I did. I didn’t realize I was getting high when I got high. But I got high, and I have to tell you that it was one of the best broadcasts I’ve ever had," Esiason, who is also an analyst for CBS Sports, said.

Esiason explained that while working with Millen in the stadium's radio booth, which was located in the middle of the stands, it was cold, raining and both teams -- the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots -- were having a losing season.

"And there’s this grim reaper outside of our booth, and he’s got a hoodie on and he’s got a big, old, puffy jacket on, and he’s smoking weed. And he’s blowing it into the lean-to," Esiason continued.

Esiason said he and Millen knew what was happening outside their booth, but they didn't realize they were getting high as a result.

Audio from that broadcast was dredged up and aired on the show Monday.

As the commentary went on, the more laughs were shared between Esiason and Millen. One of the commentators said on air at the time that someone was in the stands "doing something that they shouldn't be doing."
