UPDATE: NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A truck driver from Georgia has been charged with death by auto in connection with a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that killed one man and injured four others, including actor and comedian Tracy Morgan.

Middlesex County prosecutors said 35-year-old Kevin Roper of Jonesboro also faces four counts of assault by auto stemming from the 1 a.m. Saturday crash. His bail was set at $50,000.

Roper's tractor-trailer allegedly rammed into a chauffeured limousine bus that Morgan was riding in, setting off a chain-reaction crash.

Morgan and the two others remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday night.

UPDATE: Tracy Morgan's comedy writer Jeff McNair was pronounced dead at the scene of the Saturday morning crash.

Morgan's publicist released the following statement Saturday morning:

"Tracy remains in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. He sustained these injuries in an accident that occurred early this morning as one of several passengers in a chauffeured SUV returning from a tour date in Delaware. His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care. We don't anticipate much of a change in his condition today but will provide a further update once more information becomes available."

Sgt. First Class Greg Williams tells The Associated Press that the vehicle carrying the 45-year-old former "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" cast member and six others was involved in a six-vehicle accident on the turnpike near Cranbury Township at about 1 a.m. Saturday.

A spokesman at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey, says a patient named Tracy Morgan is in critical condition there.

Williams says one person riding in the bus was killed. There was no immediate word on the condition of others involved in the accident.

Williams says two tractor-trailers, a sports utility vehicle and two cars, along with Morgan's limo bus, were involved in the accident.

Ardie Fuqua, who opened for Morgan Friday evening at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, Delaware, posted photos on Instagram of the show and the luxury vehicles the group was taking back to New York City early Saturday morning.

It appears that Morgan was returning from the show in Delaware when the collision occurred.

The 45-year-old Morgan joined "Saturday Night Live" in 1996 and was on the sketch-comedy program for seven years before leaving to star in "The Tracy Morgan Show" in 2003. That show lasted just one season. In 2006, Morgan found a long-running role in NBC's hit show "30 Rock," which was created by SNL co-star Tina Fey.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
