Westboro Baptist Church Thanks God for Horrific Downing of Malaysian Jet

"You all have the responsibility to judge between good and evil."

Westboro Baptist Church, the anti-gay group that regularly makes headlines over its controversial protest tactics, is claiming that the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was an act of God to get mankind's attention, warning that those who refuse to listen "will perish."

"GodSmack! Malaysian Plane Down," read a tweet sent last week from Westboro's account. Another added: "On 7/17 a [Malaysia Airlines] plane with 298 people aboard exploded. Thank God for His righteous work."

On one of its blogs, members praised God for the downing of the airliner, which claimed 298 lives and devastated hundreds of surviving family members, writing "Thank God for the MH17 plane crash" and explained, in detail, why they believe the plane was downed.

"The Judge of All the Earth Shall Do Right! As Abraham declared in Genesis Chapter 18 on the eve of the holocaust that killed millions at Sodom in a few minutes, kind of like this event. The evidence is compelling that these 298 souls are in hell," one post proclaimed. "There is no objectively reasonable basis to believe anything else about the eternal fate of these 298. You all have the responsibility to judge between good and evil [Amos 5:15; Luke 12:57] and take forth the precious from the vile [Jeremiah 15:19]: especially at the time of death and eternity."

Westboro went on to claim that many of the countries represented by the deceased rebel against God with false religious practices and "policies."

As TheBlaze previously reported, the plane was shot down with a surface-to-air missile last Thursday as it flew over eastern Ukraine at about 30,000 feet.
