Former President George W. Bush spoke openly about his Christian faith and the integral role that the Bible played in his presidency during an event held in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday evening.
Addressing an audience of 200 business and local leaders at a gathering held at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the former president took the stage with Steve Green, president of the Hobby Lobby craft store chain, to share details about his religious views.
"I read the Bible every day during my presidency," Bush proclaimed, noting that it played a key role in his life and perspective, according to a press release highlighting the event.

He also attempted to separate how his faith impacted and informed his values and how it dictated his decisions while in office.
"The easiest time to be faithful is during a time of crisis. The hardest time for faith is when all is well," Bush said. "Faith informed my principles and decisions, but not my tactics. It would give me strength, but I didn’t use my faith to make decisions. Freedom is a faith informed principle."
The former president also heralded the Washington D.C.-based Museum of the Bible, which is being spearheaded by Green and is scheduled to open to the public in late 2017, calling it "a great idea."
"It’s very important that the Museum of the Bible invites and makes people of all faiths feel comfortable," Bush said. "It will be an important part of our capital."
